Active Learning at Battling Brook

Rationale:

The Active Learning Approach (based on LPA principles) relates to pedagogical practices of our teachers in developing and preparing young people for life in the 21^st Century as well as facilitating their personal growth as a learner. At Battling Brook, through our school values (EACH) and principles of learning power, we are committed to developing a rich learning culture for our school community.

Development of Active Learning:

In order to support our pupils with developing their resilience, independence, reflection, problem solving and collaboration, we are beginning with what is most important for our learners at Battling Brook and this begins with creating a psychologically safe classroom (for all children and adults to ‘feel safe’ to be a learner). We aim to achieve this through key aspects of learning power and teaching strategies which underpin them. These include:

Learning Journey of Active Learning:

In order to provide our children with quality teaching and learning, we are actively engaging in the development of our teaching staff. In doing so, teachers will continue to be reflective and willing to challenge their own practice as well as the practice of others. A supportive and collaborative programme of continuing professional learning provides all teachers with the opportunity to learn and grow; both for themselves as professionals and for the benefit of the pupils they teach.
