Computing
Computing Curriculum Statement
Computing is an integral part of our everyday lives and will play an immeasurable part in our children’s futures. At Battling Brook Primary School we endeavour to provide all of our children with the skills, creativity and enthusiasm to live and thrive in a world increasingly dependent on technology. As computing technology underpins today’s modern lifestyle, it is essential that all pupils gain the confidence and ability that they need in this subject, to prepare them for the challenge of a rapidly developing and technological world.
This is achieved through following Kapow Primary Objectives for our computing planning which is based upon the National Curriculum. These objectives give guidance to ensure coverage of all key areas of the 2014 National Curriculum; however, like with any published guidance staff make adaptations where necessary for their individual classes to ensure accurate acquisition of skills and knowledge.
Purpose of study – National Curriculum (NC), 2014
A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

Our school is committed to nurturing pupils’ curiosity and creativity, as well as preparing them for living in a modern world where technology is rapidly changing and advancing. Each class has access to our computer suite filled with desktop computers as well as having access to a number of iPads.

The internet can be an amazing place to chat to friends and talk to people that you are not able to visit or spend your free time with. It can also be a valuable place to enhance your learning and discover new skills and join new clubs or activities easier.
It is also important for you to understand how to protect yourself and stay safe while you are on line. Below are some links to pages that offer some valuable advice to any questions that you may have.
Remember, if something does not feel right or makes you feel concerned or worried then do not hesitate to speak to a trusted adult either at home or at school.
