So Much More Than Just A Free School Meal
We are writing to all parents to establish whether there are children currently attending Battling Brook who are entitled to receive Pupil Premium/Free School Meals who are not claiming their funding.
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a free meal without having to apply. This is Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) and does not attract additional funding for the child or the school. However, Free School Meals (FSM) entitles you to so much more than just a free meal and will benefit your child, yourself and the school.
We want to make sure that we are providing your child with the best education and support we can. Healthy school food has obvious health benefits and can help pupils establish healthy habits for life. Healthy school food can also help to improve pupils’ readiness to learn.
Families who receive certain benefits may be eligible for free school meals. If your circumstances have recently changed, you may now be eligible. Registering for free meals could also raise an extra £1385 for our school from central government. This can fund valuable support like extra tuition, additional teaching staff, after school clubs and school trips. Even if you don’t want your child to have a school meal, we would encourage you to still register so that the school receives as much funding as possible.
In addition, if you are eligible, your child will be entitled to Pupil Premium funding (£100 for the current financial year pro rata). This can be used to pay for school trips, activities or even uniform.
To check your eligibility, please click the attached link and complete the form. Should your application be successful, you will be informed immediately and we will contact you regarding your pupil premium allocation. If you are already in receipt of Free School Meals, you do not need to re-apply.
Thank you for your support.
